An Ocean Lover’s Primary Bath

Updated: Jan 14, 2023

For me, the best part of designing interiors is so much more than getting a good before and after pic. It's taking a room from something a client just tolerates to something they love. For this awesome couple, their master bathroom was a problem. Actually, it was like 178 problems, and they felt stuck with not enough space, not enough storage, and certainly not a lick of their fun personalities. And with 4 kids ranging from ages 3-14, these hard working parents need some peace, for crying out loud!

They had recently renovated a large game room to include 2 extra bedrooms and a full bathroom. The plan was eventually to expand the master bathroom and closet into the small bedroom adjacent that they no longer needed. So now they now had the space, they had a contractor, but they didn't have any ideas about how to best use the room. And that is exactly how I could help.

AFTER:

What I knew right off the bat was that I wanted to take advantage of that gorgeous natural light pouring through that massive window that was in the former bedroom, and decided that a wet room (combination shower and tub space) would be the best way to use that area.

With the tub/shower moved, we were able to turn the toilet instead of having to move it (hello, money saver!) and created a separate water closet, leaving room for a spacious double vanity, as well as plenty of room for dreamy walk in closet (pics to come later!)

You can peep a little bit of the closet in one of the mirrors and the door to the water closet it the other.

Taking inspiration from the clients time living in Costa Rica, I went with ocean blue porcelain tile and warm, water resistant teak accents to give major style and function to the wet room.

This is the escape I was hoping to give to these amazing, loving, busy, fun, kind people. A little bit of peace in their joyful chaos of balancing jobs and parenthood. And that is the best part of what I do!
